Young carers and young adult carers

Taking a break

It’s important that young carers get a break from caring responsibilities. Social services should be able to organise a break for you.

If you care for a brother or sister but are not the ‘main’ carer it’s still important for you to have time away from caring. You can find out more about taking a break from caring by visiting:

The Scottish young carers festival

The Scottish Young Carers Festival takes place every year. It will:

  • give you a break from your caring role
  • help you meet other young carers
  • have activities to take part in
  • speak with decision makers about your role

To take part in festival you need to be with an adult such as a:

  • young carer worker
  • youth worker
  • teacher
  • social worker
