What counts as an emergency?
An emergency can be defined as an illness, accident, personal crisis or event which unexpectedly results in the carer being separated from the cared-for person. This might be on a short or long-term basis or because the cared-for personal needs have changed.
It might include:
- a family funeral
- a transport delay
- a family illness
- a planned or unplanned admission to a hospital
- a last-minute medical or dental appointment
- a personal accident affecting the carer
