Guardianship

Financial guardianship

Financial guardians have certain administrative responsibilities to fulfil.

The first year of financial guardianship may be time-consuming, as there are administrative tasks that you’ll need to complete.

Further information on what’s involved is available from the Office of the Public Guardian.

By taking on the role of financial guardian, you accept this responsibility. It’s important you consider if you have the time and ability to commit to being a financial guardian before you take up the appointment.

The Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland’s Money Matters publication (PDF, 136 KB) has further information on this and other ways to help manage money for someone else.

The information was last updated on: 17th April 2023
